My life is a wee bit crazy over the next few days.. I have tests today and tomorrow. #myfavorite
I may be back in the loop Thursday if my work load doesn't pick up, but if it does.. you know why I'm MIA. If I don't see you all at the end of this week I'll most definitely see you next week!

The Lord Knew..

It's Monday, not my favorite for sure.
I write today with a heart of gratitude as I thank God for placing someone in my life I've been praying for for over a year now. The first Sunday I was here in College Station, I attended a church called Impact. The service that day was exactly what I needed and the Lord knew.. a pastor spoke a word over me saying that the "like-minded" friends I have been praying for will be here very soon. I would make a connection and just know it was God's perfect timing, so much so this person and I would be like twins.

I received that and moved forward. Little did I know,  God placed an incredible woman in my life and her name is, Abby. (Ironic right?? Some would say. Others would say, that was totally God.) She loves the Lord with all her heart, encourages me daily, prays for me, and loves me like a sister. We have things in common that are just crazy and also things that are different which makes us better friends because we balance each other out. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better friend, sister in Christ and encourager. The Lord knew.. He always does.
I write today to tell you, no matter where you are, no matter what you're going through, the Lord will meet you today right where you are at. Let him sweep you into His arms and love you for today no matter what that looks like. A sweet friend shared a quote with me that really encouraged me,
"God does not give us grace for our imagination..he gives us Grace exactly when we need it, not ahead of time."
You are loved by the people around you but most importantly by our King.

Happy Monday, friends.

If you aren't a follower of Jesus Christ and want to know more about him, please message me. I would love nothing more than to share that Good News with you.

Facial Favorites

St. Ives | Target
Tea Tree Oil | Local Health Food Store
Makeup Remover Towelettes | Target
Toner | Mary Kay
Eucerin | Target
Neutrogena | HEB (it's not at target)

It's Wednesday, whoop! Halfway through the week! Thank you all who responded to my survey yesterday! I so appreciate the feedback!
As I shared with you previously the humidity here is a HUGE struggle. Like I mean huge. My face freaked out like it always does with the start of school, add humidity (which I'm not used to) and Ladies and Gentleman you have a crater fest on your face! Not ideal when you're trying to meet people. Not ideal at all.

Anyway, I asked many a friends what they do to keep their skin in tip top shape. After many questions and trying many different things I finally have a system that works. I've been doing it for about a week and my skin is under control. PTL!

So let's start with what I use in the morning--

This redness soothing face wash is great. I use it in the shower every morning and let it sit on my face while I wash my hair or body. It definitely helps with red reducing and because it's a creamy wash it isn't too hard on your skin in the morning. If my acne is pretty bad I'll take a cotton ball and use the Mary Kay toner to kill those suckers.
The moisturizer is what I've been using for ages because I'm allergic to sunscreen and this is the only moisturizer I've ever applied to my skin that hasn't burned. I have very fair skin so protecting it is crucial. I will probably try some new products once I run out of this bottle. I have nothing bad to say about it, it's just not top on my list, I only use it because I have to. If you have sensitive skin like myself, I do recommend it.

Now for the night time--

Getting all your makeup off at night is crucial to clean, healthy skin. I absolutely love the Target brand of the makeup removing wipes. They remove most of my makeup very easily and are definitely budget friendly. I use the St. Ives in the shower only because it leaves the exfoliating beads on my skin and the shower is the only way I can get them all off. LOL. I like this because it's a natural scrub that gets any dead skin off as well as the left over makeup residue. Depending on the situation of my face I will take a cotton ball and wipe my face with toner to kill the bacteria again. (I don't recommend doing this twice a day if your skin isn't in dire need. It will definitely dry you out.)  Then I proceed to spot treat with the Tea Tree oil if they are ultra bad! I haven't been using a nightly moisturizer because it is so humid here. It clogs my pores and does not do them justice. If you are in a dryer state or area then definitely use one. I just have no need to do that right now due to my drastic climate change.

I hope this is helpful to each of you. If your acne struggle is real be encouraged, sister, you aren't the only one. ;)

Glam Meets Nike

My Sunday was quite eventful some would say...I officially succumbed and purchased my first pair of Nike's. I held off for 4 weeks but wearing a cheap Old Navy pair just wasn't cutting the mustard anymore, friends. I never thought I'd wear a t-shirt and shorts as I shared with you in a previous post...but I really NEVER in a million years thought this day would come. I am now a wearer of tennis shoes, expensive tennis shoes. What has my world come to??

Now both of you should know.. two of my fav gal pals Alana and Abby came with me (aka the triple A sandwich). We went shopping Friday for some maroon jewelry for the game yesterday and let me just say our shopping trip lasted 25 minutes IF that. They walked in, looked, didn't see anything, walked right back out. For those that know me, I like to soak in the shopping and make it last as long as possible. That. Doesn't. Happen. With. Them. Plus we found nothing. Now today, they were in their element completely, me on the other hand, no.

I decided yesterday when I knew tennis shoes were a must that I was going Nike all the way. I like the way they slim my feet and make tennis shoes look as chic as possible, is that even possible? Any other Nike fans in the audience? My feet are long so if I can make them look smaller I'll do just that.

We entered the glorious DSW and the reason I chose that store is because my sweet momma gave me a $20 off coupon. Yes you read that correctly. ;) She's basically the greatest! LOVE her. We walked the aisles waiting for something to catch my eye. I'm immediately drawn to teal. That's just me. I see a gray shoe with some teal detailing and it's the first one I put on. I slipped the shoe on and it was like walking on a cloud. What have I been missing all my life??? (WHAT JUST CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH??) Did I just say I liked tennis shoes? No I said comfortable just to clarify. ;) I tried a few other pairs on but nothing was comparing. The final pick was between a hot pink and the grey ones. The grey and teal ones were the ONES. It didn't take as long as I thought. In and out in 35 minutes. Shortest shopping trip for Abi Albers. Ever.

My sidekicks took tons of pics because they couldn't believe this day had come, in their words, "It was a proud mom moment. We've taught you so much."

I own 3 pairs of white ankle socks because I don't wear tennis shoes so those were added to the purchase pile.

They took a picture of me checking out, why? Because it adds to the experience I guess..
$76 was the final total-- for a pair of Nike shoes and socks. A STEAL! Putting this one in the books.
My sidekicks are in purple and teal. (aka the triple A team)
Triple A's (aka the dream shopping team)

It's Not JUST a Birthday.

Today is September 18th, eight years ago today my sweet brother Benjamin Jeremiah was born. A sweet miracle he was as he entered at only 7lbs 11oz (the smallest of all the Albers). You see, Benjamin was more than just another brother, he was the Albers miracle baby.

Just about 17 months prior to his birth my family experienced one of the greatest losses. My mom was 35 weeks pregnant when we found out our little brother due in June had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, loosing all oxygen, Jesus had taken him home to Heaven. Jeremiah Levi Albers, my sweet brother with a precious little nose, tiny fingers, hair, and little ears was never able to take a breath on this sweet Earth.

My few sweet minutes with my little brother.
May 2, 2006
My family was completely shaken. I was only 10 at the time but could tell you the day and it's events as if it were yesterday. You hear tragic stories of still births often but you never think it will be YOUR family. We mourned, we grieved, we cried, we wept, we questioned God, we wondered how a sweet innocent baby could be taken so fast....but God knew. He knew Benjamin (aka BB) would come only 17 months later on September 18, 2007 and be one of the greatest joys our family has ever had.

Our bundle of joy!
Many know that story and others don't. But I share it with you to remind everyone how special a birthday can be for some. Yes BB is getting bigger and it's crazy to think that the little baby I mothered (or liked to think I mothered at 11) is now a big kid. (And yes many asked if he was my kid at times, SCARY. I KNOW.) Only 2 years away from double digits. His life is a reminder that God is good through all of the tragedies, heartbreaks, but also the joyful moments, the victories, and the celebrations.

Thank you Lord, for sweet Benjamin and his life of eight years and tons more to come! Lord, thank you for Jeremiah. His name means "May Jehovah Exalt." May the short life he lived bring YOU all the glory.

The Perfect Night of Sleep

Some of you may not believe the title of this post is even possible. With life pulling at you in all different directions it's hard to quiet your mind and retreat to just 6 or 7 hours of mindful rest.

I have a solution that is completely natural and I'm swearing by it, that's for sure.. are you ready?? Lavender oil. That's it. Simply, lavender oil. Not only am I just swearing by it but I have proof. I've been using a sleep app called Sleep Cycle , since before I moved to Texas, so for over a year. I place it under my pillow every night and it tracks my sleep. It shows when I was in deep sleep and light sleep. Then based on how restless or peaceful I was it gives a percentage for the night. I can absolutely tell when I've had a night of 40% compared to 90%. Now I can tell a difference just with lavender oil in general. I have a comparison between my sleep cycles about a month apart, the left side is without lavender oil the other is with. The oil is worth every penny. So take a look at these comparisons and if I haven't convinced you after looking, you're crazy. ;)

Notice the hours of sleep are different by 8 minutes.
This chart they are a bit different in hours, but on the left side I was very restless based on how the graph reads.
Also, 2 hours extra of sleep increased by percentage by more than 50%, that's crazy!

Seriously, spend a few dollars and change the way you feel because your sleep is so amazing! Get your oil here.

Embracing Casual

Casual Look 1 of many.
Shirt | Pink
Hat | Aggieland Outfitters (rep the school or favorite hat of your choice)
Shoes | Amazon
Leggings | Cabi
Shirt | Target
Shoes | Old Navy
Shorts | Old Navy

The struggle is real I tell ya...I thought it was hot in McKinney till I got here. Little did I know what I was in for. All the cute clothes that I have are collecting dust in my closet because the heat is just ridiculous, or humidity I should say. As a Cabi girl I vowed I wouldn't wear t-shirts, nike shorts, and tennis shoes but I hate to say it, I've succumbed. I have absolutely nothing against any of those pieces, they just aren't my style. Well I guess now they are. ;) My hair is up most days and I'll even add a hat if it's just one of THOSE hair days. Curling my hair, that's a joke. The humidity flattens it within seconds (the curls in my second pic maybe lasted an hour). What products does everyone use to help with humidity and holding curl?
The bugs here are ginormous. The heat and moisture causes skin breakouts and itchiness. The list can go on. Hence--embracing the casual. I love it now more than ever.  I have no choice or I'll die of "melting by the sun." *pathetic girl cry*

I'm hoping with the arrival of fall I'll be able to layer in style and embrace as many jeans, leggings and boots as possible! Is everyone as ready as I am??
For those that are already in colder climates aka my East Coast peeps (and that's anything lower than 80 with humidity) wear some adorable fall pieces for me and share it with the hashtag #embracingfall! Anyone still in my situation...we can all embrace causal together with the hashtag #embracethecasual.

We're halfway through the week!

BTHO Ball State!

For many of you I'm sure the Aggie lingo is not familiar to you. So today I'm going to familiarize that with you a bit and tell you about my weekend at the Fighting' Texas Aggie Football game. WHOOP!

First off, BTHO means Beat the Hell Out Of *insert whichever team we are playing that week*
This past week it was Ball State and we sure did give them a good ole punch to the back. ;) The final score was 23-56!

My family came in from McKinney which I was over the moon excited about. It was my first Football game as a current Aggie so it was awesome to have them there and experience everything with them as an actual student.

Friday night was Midnight yell which is the night before home games, all the students gather together in Kyle Field and practice our yells for the game the next day. This is a timeless Aggie tradition that truly never gets old.

Saturday we woke up, dressed in all things Aggie and headed out to a tailgate with our friends the Hamilton's. Good food, good friends, good football. Life can't get much better than that. ;) The afternoon sped by and before I knew it, I was in my 2nd deck 1st row (MY SEATS WERE SICK) seat looking out in awe over Kyle Field and the awesomeness that was just about to unfold before my eyes. Spectacular is an understatement! OOO baby it was the coolest! The game kicked off with the sun beating down on the student side.
*side note* Aggie students stand the entire football game. We stand for our incredible band and then get to sit for 10 minutes during halftime. To say your feet hurt doesn't even come close. LOL
Once the sun finally went down the temp was in the 70's and it felt so so good!
The weekend was spectacular and one-of-a-kind and the first of many!

Just so you know, Aggie tradition is the BEST tradition! Anyone have any game day memories from the weekend?
Happy Monday, Gig'Em, and BTHO Nevada!!

Living on a budget

With a new stage of life comes this fun new thing called budgeting.. Oh how I love it (NOT). Those of you living on the college budget totally understand what I'm saying. It's what is necessary to get by. My life is so good compared to those who are forced to work through college because they have no other way to get through school. If that's you reading this, I have such great respect for you. I'm so blessed to have my parents paying for my schooling. If you're in the same boat as me, thank whoever is providing the funds for you to go to school. I'm so privileged. I truly am.

Today I wanted to give some suggestions on how to use your money wisely in college and make the most bang for your buck.

Tip #1.
At the beginning of the month look at what you have to work with and organize from there. Don't budget as you go. It won't end well, unfortunately.

Tip #2.
Limit yourself to eating on campus as much as possible. It sucks away your money like a vacuum! Try to only eat so many times on campus, I told myself no more than $30 a week.. that averages to around 3.5 POSSIBLY 4 meals.

Tip #3.
Grocery shopping for one goes a long way! Utilize the grocery store if you have a vehicle or a friend who can take you! I went to H-E-B last night and spent $27 on food that will last me for probably a week and a half. I got lots of fresh fruit, veggies, and potatoes. Cook those up and use the extra as leftovers.

Tip #4.
COUPONS. Try to get as many coupons as possible. Online, apps, magazines. They will be your new best friend. My app recommendation is The Krazy Coupon Lady.

Tip #5.
Have a budget book where you can keep a tally of how much you are spending. Also keep all your receipts, it can help you calculate exactly what you were doing with your money.

Tip #6.
Rather then spend the smallest amount of money on a particular item, spend the little extra so the item will last you longer. For instance, buying a new razor averages to $8. Replacement heads (pack of 4) are anywhere from $16-$20. If every time your razor is dull and you go buy a new razor, then in two new razor purchases you could have bought a pack of 4 heads to last you 6 months, or how ever long your blade lasts you. Make sense? Those kind of purchases here and there will make a difference in the long run.

Tip #7.
Brand name products are USUALLY no different then the store brand you are shopping at. You can cut back on probably $5-$6 every time you shop if you avoid the name brand products and just go with generic.

Tip #8.
If you are working and can, TRY to save 1/4-1/2 of every paycheck you receive. This is a really good habit to get into and can really benefit you in the long run.

Tip #9.
Try to cut back on mani/pedis (yes you heard that from me). Those suck away your money like crazy. Limit yourself to going once a month or every other month. Or invest in an at home gel manicure kit.

Tip #10.
Try in the midst of being money smart to enjoy yourself and don't be so uptight about your money it will take the fun out of everything you do. Just be SMART.

Happy Budgeting, friends!! I hope this inspires every one of you!
