A Little Pattern Mixing

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed the "observed" holiday yesterday as a day to relax and recoup! I spent the day shopping and spending some Christmas money. Lots of stores are having amazing sales! So if you're feeling brave, venture out today.

Lately I've been a fan of mixing pattern with pattern. It's definitely bold but in such a fun way.  I am loving these pants with an adorable cable knit sweater!! They are the perfect pop of color for any fall or winter day. The Pixie pant from Old Navy is a staple! These pants are the perfect amount of stretch with tons of fun patterns! They fit mostly true to size. But they are very reasonably priced and work perfect for a day outfit, night or even work!

Cable knit sweaters can be a struggle, if you don't find good quality they feel very itchy on the skin and pill within wearing it a few times. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sensitive when it comes to fabric. Cotton not wool is how I have to shop sweaters. I've actually found the Old Navy cable knit sweaters to wear really well, BUT some of them are cut weird which makes it difficult. This one in particular though was cut very true to size it's just not baggy. I definitely am more of a baggy look kind of girl but for this outfit the normal size sweater is better.

The sweaters work so well for everyday or with a chambray shirt underneath for work! I've linked up the pants and sweater but sizes are limited so forgive me. I shot this look like a month ago. 😕  But the principle of pattern mixing is still the same with similar style clothing!

Christmas Traditions!

Happy Christmas, friends! We are days away from what I consider the biggest holiday and celebration of the year. I'm thrilled!

Today, I wanted to share with y'all my family's Christmas traditions. I always love hearing what other families do and how they make Christmas special. If you read this post, do me a favor and share a Christmas tradition in the comments. 😊

1. On Christmas Eve we open Christmas pjs! This is something I've always loved. Every year the pjs are different and it makes them that much more special! Then on Christmas day we get the classic sibling/family Christmas picture in pjs. (side note: because my mom is a professional photographer, pictures are taken all throughout Christmas morning regardless of how everyone looks. 😂  These are always my least favorite. lol)

2. Christmas morning Benjamin wakes everyone up as early as possible. The anxiously excited 9 year old just can't get enough of Christmas morning! But what nine year old can't?! After he wakes everyone up, we all come into the family room and my Dad opens the Bible and reads the story of Christmas. This is always such an incredible reminder, regardless of the chaos, I want my heart to be in the right place because Jesus truly is the reason for the season.

3. Our stockings are opened before we start underneath the tree. Then we eat monkey bread! This recipe is amazing..before I went completely gluten free it was the sweetest part of my day. Pun intended. 😉

 4. For actually opening presents they are opened individually from youngest to oldest. I know some families open all at once but we drag the process out as long as possible. I really enjoy this because we can see what everyone opens up and take our time! Do you open yours up individually or all at the same time?

After everything is open we watch the Christmas parade and stay in our pjs till at least noon! Then we spend the rest of the day playing with our gifts and being all together. This truthfully has to be one of the most relaxing days of the year and I love that.

I'm so excited for Christmas to be here! Aren't you??

I'm wishing you and your family a merry merry Christmas!

Fair Isle and Plaid

So one of my new favorite looks has been putting a flannel on with a cute chunky sweater and mixing patterns! I did it yesterday actually.. with this same black and white flannel and a navy chunky sweater. That seems to be a big thing and I love it.. It's warm, stylish and cozy! I love the cozy look, don't you? 😉

This entire outfit is from Old Navy. (If you don't know how I feel about Old Navy, just know I think it's a great place to shop for a good quality clothing for a reasonable, frugal price. Side note: Sometimes Old Navy thinks its Nordstrom's and prices things ridiculously but that's not a constant occurrence.)

The flannel I actually got last year from Old Navy so I've linked the same shirt but in a forest green and black. This sweater was a huge hit so it's very low stock wise BUT I tried another cute similar pattern that pairs well with the flannels. To me, this is the perfect Christmas week outfit. It's casual but festive and fun! Truthfully, this look would for any time during the cold months! Fair isle is a classic pattern that never goes out of style.

Now the jeans I'm wearing are the best! You can't see the bottom of them well but it's fringe and I'm obsessed with this look on pants. When it's a little warmer and I wear flats they will look absolutely adorable.

I'm loving this outfit and the pop is brings to any winter day!

How's the Christmas shopping coming? Splendid I hope! Thanks for reading, friend!

Apple Watch Review

In light of Christmas almost being here I thought I would share the inside scoop and my thoughts on the Apple Watch for anyone considering purchasing it as a gift for themselves or a loved one! I've had my watch for a little over a month and I am loving it. Prior to purchasing it though I talked to a lot of people and did a lot of research. What's the different between the first and second series? Is it really worth the money because some think it's just another phone on your wrist. I'm here to tell you, it's a sleek accessory that really has a lot of perks! I'm going to address all these questions and list the features I love. When I was on the fence, I wanted a blog post that spelled everything out so I'm doing that with hopes of answering questions for all my readers and anyone else that stumbles upon my blog. 😊

What's the difference between the first and second series?

First series: $269
  • Track your physical activity with a step counter
  • Check the weather with the tap of a finger
  • Check your heart rate
  • Stay connected with texts, phone calls, and anything on your calendar
  • Use your maps so you can safely look at your wrist and not be staring down at your phone
  • Control music, reminders, and more
  • Water resistant
Second series: $369
  • All the same features as the first series but add:
  • Waterproof up to 50 meters
  • GPS capability without your phone

With this in mind, I opted for the first series. I am not a swimmer and I also knew if I needed GPS capabilities I would always have my phone so paying the extra $100 was not worth it at all. As the watch improves I'll be curious to see what features Apple adds.

The features I love about the watch:

1. The convenience of being able to check texts quickly when I'm in a place where it's not appropriate and reply to it later.
I love this feature because when I'm in class or at work or at an event and my phone is in my purse, I can quickly glance and then ignore it. If something is urgent I can know and address it. I've also realized I look at my phone less when things come in because I can just glance on my watch and not get distracted and somehow end up on Facebook or Instagram.

2. The timer
I really love this feature especially for my work power hours and naps. The alert is a nice vibration and nothing crazy obnoxious that startles me and gives me anxiety. This is obviously a personal preference but something I love.

3. Choosing the face and customizing based on things that are important to me.
I can choose the color of the font, face, and background of my watch. This is so nice because when I glance at my face any quick info I need is right there like: my activity tracker, weather, location, time, date, heart rate and when the sun will rise or set depending on the time of day.

4. Maps and GPS
I haven't quit figured out the perfect view for when I am driving but I love that my watch vibrates when I am supposed to turn. It's like a soft alert that if somehow I missed the instructions I will be notified with a vibration. Also, no texts or anything come through when maps is open which is a great safety feature.

I'm excited to experiment with apps. I haven't had the time to do that but know that there are tons. I truly think this was a great purchase! It's a great gift for teachers (all of my teacher friends rave about theirs), students, athletes, moms, dads, anyone really!

I've linked up the best Christmas deals at the bottom of the post so it's easy for you to shop!

Side note: My watch is the 38 mm in rose gold first series.

Target is having a great deal for the series 1 and you can get it before Christmas! Amazon is a wonderful place to get different color silicone bands. I've included those things below! Happy shopping!!

Fabulous Holiday Outfits

Happy Friday, friends! We are about a week out from Christmas, craziness! I know I've shared a combination of Christmas and New Years outfits but I have a few more for you today! These are great last minute options or perfect gifts! I love pieces that work for both holidays in the next 2 weeks! All the parties, functions, and nights out to celebrate the Christmas cheer can get expensive so having outfits that can work for multiple occasions is perfect! I'm so excited to be showing off some Sabi pieces that pair beautifully together!

I want to talk about the sparkle with pop of red! I love how this dress can be a a Christmas party dress or New Years, just depends on what blazer or jacket you pair with it. It truthfully could be worn in the summer without tights too which makes it even more versatile. I love how it doesn't hug the body but still has shape and gives you a figure! It lays very nicely and is sassy!

Dress | Blazer (Similar)
I'm crazy about this jumpsuit! It's so sassy, flirty and fun! I love that you can play with the style by picking what kind of jacket you want. Another perk is your legs are covered for these crazy cold nights! The sleeves are so fun and aren't constricting like some off the shoulder shirts are. This would look great on any skin tone or any hair color. I mean who looks bad in red?!

Jumpsuit | Leather Jacket (Similar) | Shoes
This outfit had to be one of my favorites. This cowl neck white furry sweater is so soft and has such a fun texture! You could wear a bright lip with it to dress it up for night time and add a leather skinny. For during the day or a holiday lunch party wear some cute leggings, booties and a soft lip and you're good to go!

Sweater | Scarf | Leggings (Similar) | Shoes

I know today was short with words but these outfits speak for themselves! Sabi is a fantastic boutique that has pieces in all price ranges. They are local in College Station but have a wonderful website where you can get your Sabi fix no matter where you live. 😉

This post was sponsored by Sabi but all opinions are of my own.

Gift Guide For Him

Happy Tuesday! I am home in Dallas enjoying the lights on my tree and flexibility of not having classes to attend or homework to do, there is nothing quite like the feeling!

Now that I'm on winter break I am in full Christmas mode, finalizing the few gifts I need, and embracing all things holiday! That being said, somehow I ended up with a guy who has a birthday tomorrow (his 21st) and then Christmas 11 days later and our anniversary on January 1st. We didn't plan that well, did we?! This year we decided no gifts for our anniversary and just a fun date. But I still had to get him a birthday and Christmas present. Finding the perfect gift for a guy can be so hard... with girls there are so many options and choices of things to choose from, but guys are picky and hard and know what they like and don't like. Am I right?!

I piled up a few easy favorites that I assure you any guy will love. There is something for everyone! Whether he loves socks and ties or beer or both you'll be able to easily get him something!

1. What guy doesn't need or like a nice leather wallet? Zach's is looking rather sad. I feel like guys like to use their things till they cannot be used any longer. If you want to make it more personal, look into getting a monogram in the corner!

2. Another staple, a leather belt. You can't go wrong here either! I don't need to explain this other than, every guy needs a nice belt!

3. The RTIC koozie works just as well as the Yeti brand but for a much cheaper price. These are awesome for keeping your beer cold for hours. Every guy needs one of these. 😉

4. Some guys love leather watches, others love all black for the more sleek look. Zach would be one of those guys. This adds a nice touch to every outfit even for men. #winning

5. What girl doesn't love a good smelling man? 😍  I'm obsessed with this cologne so if you've tossed around the idea of getting a cologne you need to get this one! It's the perfect gift for under the tree.

6. Last but certainly not least, a wonderful tie, sock, pocket square gift set. Gift sets are my favorite so if you are leaning towards the clothing category, this will be perfect!

I hope this helps with any tough gift decisions! What's your go-to gift for a guy?

Oh So Velvet!

Happy Monday, friends! I have two finals today and then I am officially on break!! I can hear the hallelujah chorus!! I can't believe we are approaching the 10 days away from Christmas mark!! I am so excited for the holidays and being able to just enjoy family and friends!

I don't know about you but before we know it, Christmas will be passed and it will be full fledge New Years prep! I know some love to just be in their pjs and watch the ball drop while others love to go out and celebrate a new year with friends and get all dressed up. Today I'm sharing an outfit just for that! I am loving the velvet texture that has brought its way back into style. I love the look and feel of it.

The black velvet top contrasts perfectly with the white blazer. This blazer is a staple. No white after labor day is an absurd rule! 😉  I know I've said that before but I mean it. White all year round is my motto. The black with the white keeps it crisp and fun! What I love about the black is it makes it dressier for night time. It's also a tank top so if you get your groove on and get hot, no biggie because you can take your blazer off and feel fabulous! The red lip is the perfect holiday pop of color. (If you want to make this work for a Christmas party I would say just add some red shoes!) Another must for your closet is what I like to call a crazy patterned pair of pants! These add spice and really take any outfit from plain to extravagant in a matter of seconds. These pants I got years ago but I tried to find some similar ones so I have those linked below.

What are your plans for New Years?? Share in the comments! I'd love to know!

I hope you love this outfit as much as I do! Thanks so much for reading!

My Current Skin Routine

Clear skin can be such a hard thing to come by.. it's been a struggle of mine since I got to college. I had perfect porcelain skin until my hormones and stress kicked in. #thestruggle

As most of you know, I went on a Rodan and Fields journey this time last year and it really cleared my skin up. I was extremely pleased but I did not want to continue such an expensive regimen when I knew I could easily get it under control and then find something that worked for me that was affordable and easier. When I transitioned off of R&F wash my face freaked out...and so I freaked out as well. I wasn't sure what went wrong and why I was having acne all over my face again. After much research and debate I decided I would eliminate everything but the sulfur wash and use that to keep it under control till my skin was more "normal" and didn't get ticked off with the drop of a hat.

After lots of research and trying to find some natural remedies, I started using Apple Cider Vinegar orally 3 times a day with water. Yes, it was awful but it really worked. I couldn't keep up with it forever so I stopped but recently with the outbreak of acne on my face I'm picking it up again. So, if you're struggling with acne, go buy some Apple Cider Vinegar and take three tbps three times a day till your skin clears. You should see results in less than five days!

Other than some natural remedies.. my skin regimen right now consists of a wash and a moisturizer that I received in my FabFitFun box. Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum is what I use after I wash my face and Osea Atmosphere Protection Cream in the morning after I wash. Before hormones and stress kicked in with finals, this routine was working really well. Right now everything is flared up but my external circumstances are the causes of that I believe.

A small factor that I believe really helped my skin was these silicone skin scrubbers. I placed my face wash on them and moved it in a circular direction all over my face once I got all my makeup off with a wipe. I think this really helped get rid of excess dirt because before this I was just using my hands and I don't think that was getting all of the dirt. I highly recommend getting one of these if you are tired of using wash clothes or just use your hands.

These are just a few of the steps I have been using but for Christmas I asked for the Tula Skin Care Discovery Kit. I've heard nothing but wonderful things about this through many different bloggers so if you need something to add to your list, I highly recommend that!

Thanks for listening to my ramble about skin during the craziest week ever (aka finals). I am officially done Monday. 😍  HELLO BREAK! Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Blue Porcelain/Paisley Dress

The Monday blues hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday, or should I say sickness.. I'm fighting a cold and a small virus I think, which is wretched considering I'm about to be in the thick of finals. Due to my sickness and the frigid temps that hit College Station I decided to invest in a heated blanket. This had to be one of the best decisions ever. It gives you the perfect amount of warmth during the cold rainy season or cold dry season (depending on where you live.) Total side note, but I knew I had to share considering it changed my life yesterday afternoon. 😉

Now for fashion speaking, I am loving this dress that I recently purchased. I don't know about you, but the swing dress style has me completely swooning. You don't have to worry about panty lines or it being too tight, you just slip it on with a pair of boots, wedges or flats and you look like you're ready to hit the town!

I also love the pattern of this dress, I've noticed it's become rather popular with two piece outfits and formal dresses! What are your thoughts on the pattern? Too much like fine china?? I personally love it! Also, do you think it's paisley or porcelain? Sometimes when I look it's paisley and other times when I look it appears porcelain!

The high neck look is also one of my favorites. It's a touch of accessory without having to wear anything. The beauty of this dress is it can be worn all year round, you just need to pair it properly!! A sweater, tights and booties and it's a winter dress. Sandals or heals with some bold jewelry and you're good to go for summer!

(The dress I linked up is very similar to the one I have on, the current style I could not find anywhere online. 😭)

Current Favorite Nail Colors

Happy December 1st! Can you believe we are 24 days out from CHRISTMAS?! I can't! I'm so excited to be done with school and be on a break for a bit!

If you know me well, you know my nails are almost always done and I obsess about the color I'm going to pick before I go to the nail salon. I mean, it's a commitment, it's going to be on my nails for 3 weeks so I better be okay with looking at it for that long right?? 😉  I constantly struggle between light or dark colors! Recently though I've done quite the mixture and found some favorites. I've linked them up for you to purchase or just know the names for the next time you go to the salon!

Now you might be asking why in the world I've only got OPI listed?! Well here's the truth, OPI is the best nail polish. It lasts the longest, especially when it comes to gel. I haven't had any chips on my nails with OPI gel polish and my manicure lasts 3 weeks! It's amazing! So next time you go to the salon, ask for all the OPI colors and ask for three coats. This formula together will give you the perfect long lasting mani!!

Lets talk colors..

1. Be There in a Prosseco is the perfect cream color! It has more of a yellow tone to it so it pairs very well with gold dresses and outfits. I wore this color for the ball! It's beautiful and such a lovely neutral. I have a picture of it on my hands here.

2. Let's Be Friends is MY ABSOLUTE favorite pale pink. It has a lot of white in it with a subtle hint of pink. Finding the perfect light pink can be so difficult but after years of searching I finally found mine. I love it so much I ordered my own normal and gel bottle to be able to take with me to the salon whenever I want it. See it on my hands here.

3. I Cannoli Wear OPI is the perfect pale grey! It's subtly chic without being too dark! I definitely recommend this one if you're looking for a light fall color! I don't have a picture of it on my hands but it's not at all opaque. Have your nail technician test it on your finger if you're unsure. 😉

4. Viking in a Vinter Vonderland is the perfect dark purple! It's not quite black but has a beautiful purple tint in the light! I absolutely love it on my toes for the fall/winter. *sidenote* Consider getting a shellac pedi if your toe nails don't grow incredibly fast. I got a shellac pedi almost 5 weeks ago and it is just now starting to look long. It definitely is a money saver if you want to cut back on the amount of pedis that you get.

5. Magala Wine is the perfect maroon! I don't know about you but I've definitely noticed how popular maroon is this fall season! This nail color is fabulous and screams fall without being too dark! I have a picture of it on my hands here.

6. Breakfast at Tiffany's Collection is a perfect gift set for Christmas. It has so many color for all different seasons! The one I recently got on my nails and loved for the holidays was Breakfast at Tiffany's (that's the name of the color). It's a beautiful pearly cream with a hint of sparkle. I usually never go for sparkle but loved this!!

7. Lastly, my next nail color before the holidays will be some type of red, but I'm eyeballing OPI Red. I have to be festive so I'll post a pic to IG once my nails are done with the actual color for those craving a beautiful hot red color this holiday season. 😉

Thanks for listening to me ramble about one of my favorite things! I hope this helps you the next time you're at the salon and aren't sure what color to get!

What are your staple nail colors??

Happy Thursday, you're almost to the weekend! 😘
